Artists Sydney James & Max Sansing Explore Street Art 's Impact on Culture & Diversity
“I believe representation and knowledge of one’s culture is pivotal,” said Sansing.
Detroit-based artist Sydney James and Chicago-born painter Max Sansing are the subjects of an intimate new video by POW! WOW! Worcester. In the five-minute clip, the duo relay their unfiltered thoughts on how their artworks is impacting culture, encouraging diversity, and engaging the youth. During the art installment, both artists painted large-scale mural portraits depicting a eclectic swathe of ethnic backgrounds that mimics the surrounding neighborhood.
“I believe representation and knowledge of one’s culture is pivotal and the role of black artists in the public realm is needed now more than ever,” said Max Sansing. “We tend to consume the by-products of public art with disregard for the creatives behind it. That needs to change and it can with more black street artists creating work and clearing pathways for themselves and others.”
