This Classic 1956 Porsche 550 RS Spyder Is Now up for Auction
Only 90 were built.

One of Porsche’s most iconic rear mid-engine race cars is set to go under the hammer at RM Sotheby’s Paris auction. The open-roof two-seater is most notably remembered as the car that James Dean lost his life in, when the late actor collied with a 1950 Ford Custom. It’s classic curves and racing pedigree is what has drawn collectors like Ralph Lauren and Pharrell Williams to pursue variants of the model.
What also makes this model extremely rare is that during the three years that the Porsche 550 RS Spyder was in production, only 90 examples rolled off the Stuttgart factory lot. Stay tuned as the final sale price for this very rare classic will be announced during Rétromobile Week happening February 6 in Paris, France.
