Off-White™'s Jean-Michel Basquiat Collection Is Part Collaboration, Part Tribute
A reverent reimagining of the late artist’s signature creations.
Off-White™‘s latest collection centers around the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat, repurposing the artist’s distinctive creations into graphics emblazoned across a series of wardrobe staples. The collaboration becomes transformative, however, when signature Off-White™ stylistic themes are meshed with Basquiat’s aggressive brushstrokes.
The New York creative’s artwork is reverently displayed across T-shirts, hoodies and trousers, as little has been done to subvert Basquiat’s jagged designs. Instead, Off-White™’s signature quotation marks are reformatted to accompany the artist’s intent, with squiggly “REVENGE” detailing and blank box branding offering a stylistically complementary look. Off-White™’s Helvetica Bold-style branding is intact, however, and serves to blend Basquiat’s emotional imagery with the clothing label’s matter-of-fact design ethos.
