Alexander Wang Pre-Fall 2019 Celebrates America's Indomitable Hustle
Packed with leopard print and leather.

Dubbed “COLLECTION 2,” Alexander Wang‘s latest runway presentation was another ode to his heritage. Whereas “COLLECTION 1” explored his roots as an immigrant and Chinese-American, this new range is “celebration of the American hustle,” Wang told Vogue. We’re taking stereotypes of class and wealth and trying to remix them, giving status symbols a new sensibility.”
Encompassing a variety of mens’ and womens’ looks, the offering repurposed imagery indicative of hustlers, movers and shakers, giving new life to leopard-printed faux fur layers, leather vests and oversized belt buckles. Wang’s covetable denim jeans anchored billowing blazers and coats, the latter occasionally emblazoned with graffiti-life smiley faces as a nod to metropolitan street art.
Comfortable running shoes and hefty derbies both paired naturally with the high-low blend of leather hoodies and spread-collar shirts alike, a similar concept embodied by the slouchy striped sweaters and loose leather trousers. Slim gold necklaces, dark shades, slicked-back hair and trim tailoring underlined the hustler mentality, while the luxurious leather carry-alls slung over the models’ shoulders recalled the humble garment bag, a utilitarian staple.

Most recently, Wang reused “COLLETION 2”‘s “PA!N” imagery for a collaboration with NTWRK.
