Stefano Pilati Kicks Off Random Identities at SSENSE
A new moderately-priced line from the seasoned designer.
After holding creative director roles at Yves Saint Laurent and Ermenegildo Zegna, Italian designer Stefano Pilati is finally stepping out on his own. The fashion veteran debuted his new line titled Random Identities, through a live show at SSENSE‘s headquarters in Montreal on Thursday.
The initial collection focuses on functionality, combining durable fabrics like twill and nylon in styles that are suitable for both day and nighttime. The “Protective Wear” as its classified, presents versatile garments like bomber jackets and overcoats in monochromatic hues, elevated by Pilati’s expert tailoring and design. The unisex collection also incorporates unique silhouettes in the form of asymmetrical blouses and corset-style belts.
Pilati also aimed to divert from his luxury background and make his latest venture more accessible to the masses. “An honest statement is necessary: fashion at high prices no longer means exclusivity. My response is to produce moderately priced clothes—‘the low’— and present them in a high fashion context, creating limited edition items which by quality of design will justify the proposal—‘the high,’” quoted Pilati.
Random Identities is available exclusively through SSENSE, with prices ranging from $90-405 USD. You can also watch a recap of the live event here.
