UPDATE: According to TMZ, Mill’s attorney, Joe Tacopina, is filing a motion for the judge to remove herself from the case.

On Monday afternoon, Meek Mill was sentenced to prison following a probation violation stemming from two incidents this year: one for a March airport brawl in St. Louis, while the other involved an August “reckless endangerment” arrest in New York City. Both of cases were eventually dropped, but the judge classified the actual arrests as violations and punished the “Contagious” rapper with a mandatory 2 to 4-year sentence which is “unjust and heavy handed” says JAY-Z who spoke out yesterday on social media after the sentencing.

Today, in an official statement released from Meek Mill’s lawyer Joe Tacopina, claims the MMG rapper was approached by Judge Genece Brinkley last year to create a remake of Boyz II Men’s “On Bended Knee” and give her a shoutout. Meek allegedly assumed the judge’s laughter after her suggestion meant that the request was a joke until she reportedly said, “I’m not kidding.” After Meek refused to recreate the single, the judge allegedly replied: “Okay, suit yourself.”

Meek’s lawyer Joe Tacopina claims this incident created a bias on the judge’s behalf and played a large role in the rapper receiving such a harsh sentence. He also announced Meek Mill’s plans to appeal the sentence.
