maharishi Reworks Traditional Japanese Art for "Graphic Duality" Capsule
Looking at themes of privacy and surveillance.
London-based label maharishi has revealed the first installment of its “Graphic Duality” capsule, which is designed to explore the contrasts between Eastern art and Western technologies. The capsule of short-sleeve and long-sleeve tees features reworkings of two traditional Japanese art styles: the erotic “Shunga” style and illustrations by Edo-period masters such as Hokusai and Kuniyoshi.
The printed images are then redacted and pixelated, a reference to maharishi’s seasonal themes including privacy concerns, government surveillance and information in the digital age. The T-shirts are all printed on organic cotton, and are available from the maharishi web store now.
