COMME des GARÇONS Taps Key Luxury Brands for One-Off Holiday Collabs
Seasonal exclusives from Gucci, Maison Margiela, Burberry, Stüssy and more.
COMME des GARÇONS‘ internationally recognized influence has yielded collaborations with high-profile luxury labels ranging from Louis Vuitton to Hermes, with CdG’s Rei Kawakubo leaving an indelible stamp on a host of premium goods. For the Holiday 2018 season, Kawakubo has tapped a variety of fashion’s greatest minds for nearly a dozen exclusive collaborative goods, launching today at Dover Street Market Ginza.
The list of participating brands reads like a who’s-who of established fashion industry vets and emerging talents, with Gucci, Maison Margiela, Burberry, Stussy, Jean Paul Gaultier, Craig Green, Walter Van Beirendonck, Marine Serre and Simone Rocha (clockwise from bottom right in the above image) all providing exclusives. Pieces range from a signature Burberry Check scarf printed with bold-face text to a signature COMME des GARÇONS PVC tote bag abetted by a strap emblazoned with Gucci’s trademark colors.
Kawakubo’s husband and Dover Street Market’s chief executive, Adrian Joffe, noted that “Rei does not enjoy two captains on a ship. So we either leave it to them or ask that they leave it to her. The nine brands were very happy to leave it to her this time.” He also noted that this is the “first time ever” that Margiela collaborated with another brand, with Kawakubo electing to toy with the house’s AIDS charity T-shirt for the collection.
Though the items are currently exclusive to DSM Ginza, they’ll roll out to other COMME des GARÇONS and Dover Street Market locations on December 6.
Elsewhere, Dover Street Market Los Angeles is set to receive an exclusive capsule of AWAKE NY gear.
