Nike Updates the Air Max 97 in Gingham Plaid
The checkerboard pattern makes its way onto the iconic runner.

After delivering the Tartan pack earlier this year, which saw the Air Max Plus, Air Max 1 and Air Max 97 get refreshed with the plaid pattern, Nike takes a slightly different approach with the striped design. Now, we witness the Air Max 97 getting revamped in a gingham scheme. The checkered arrangement, oft-associated with J. Crew button downs, takes on an elevated form in an eye-catching black and tan motif. The colorway resonates throughout the upper as a black Swoosh sits against a tan backdrop, along with the overlaying panels and branded pull tab — and even down to the outersole which reflects the lined pattern, staying true to the overall theme.
While there’s no official drop date yet, we expect this version of the AM97 to hit retailers in the coming months. For more plaid footwear, be sure to also check out Nike’s Internationalist which also recently got a Tartan upgrade.
