Zaha Hadid Architects' New Melbourne Tower Is Curvature Eye Candy
Wavy luxury.

Zaha Hadid Architects has designed a new residential tower in Mayfair, Melbourne, inspired by the building’s surrounding Australian landscape. The structure features a curvilinear façade with sweeping balconies that bring the exterior’s fluid design into the interior.
To determine the building’s design, ZHA combined the natural elements of the site with an “optimizing algorithm” to create a system of simple wave formations which were then translated into a blueprint. “These variables enable the façade to adapt to the wide variety of different apartment layouts and also to the irregular site,” explains ZHA. “This process lead to more cost-effective measures to achieve the desired, complex design by minimizing the number of different façade panels.”
Residents of the forthcoming building will be treated with views that look onto the Royal Botanical Gardens, Port Philip’s Bay and Albert Park. “The interior contains 158 private residences and community amenities such as rooftop seating, lounge areas and swimming pools.”
