Jason Freeny Dissects Spongebob, Mario & More for "Plastic Surgeon" Exhibit
See these pop culture icons get cut-up.
New York-based sculptor Jason Freeny made art headlines this past April when he posted an artwork that looks eerily similar to KAWS’ most-famous Companion figure in its Flayed iteration. Now, the renegade artist is back with new dissected pieces as part of an upcoming solo exhibition called “Plastic Surgeon” which will take place at the Megumi Ogita Gallery in Tokyo’s Ginza district. The latest figures were inspired by iconic characters in pop culture such as Spongebob Squarepants and Super Mario alongside collectible toys of a chocolate bunny and a white bear. Collectively, a total of 18 works will be displayed at the space.
Check out the gallery above and look out for “Plastic Surgeon” to launch on September 15 up until October 5. Visit Megumi Ogita Gallery’s official website to learn more.
