Forging a Real-Life Version of Euron Greyjoy's Axe From 'Game of Thrones'
The Iron King would be proud.
Euron Greyjoy is perhaps the most badass character in the seventh season of HBO‘s fantasy drama series, Game of Thrones. Why? Not only does the renegade pirate have a brash and briny personality, but the unofficial Salt Throne helm is clad in all-black and wields a powerful Kraken axe which he presumably confiscated after murdering his older brother, Victarion—a character never revealed in the TV franchise, only the books. To commemorate the fledgling Iron King, the master blacksmiths over at Baltimore Knife and Sword decided to create a real-life replica of Euron’s axe.
From producing a digital sketch to festooning the u-shaped weapon with intricate leather embroidery, the expert craftsmen meticulously detail their process in the 18-minute clip. Check out the making of the Greyjoy axe above and watch the blacksmiths test it out on a slew of random objects such as soda bottles, chunks of wood, dragon pinatas, and even a bear cut-out.
