A Young German Squad Wins the Country's First Ever Confederations Cup
Paving the way for the 2018 World Cup.

Football fans were glued to their screens over the last month as the 2017 Confederations Cup took place in Russia. The end result saw Joachim Löw‘s young side (with an average age of 23) defeat Copa America winners Chile in a 1-0 win that sealed the country’s first Confederations Cup trophy.
The lone goal came from Lars Stindl who took it home from a Timo Werner assist just after 20 minutes. With a mistake from Chilean defender Marcelo Diaz, the single goal was enough to crown Die Mannschaft the champions. The German National team’s success comes way of its second string side, with most players who helped beat Argentina in Rio three years ago having been absent. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer (who is also injured), midfielders Mesut Özil and Toni Kroos, and forward Thomas Müller are on rest before next summer’s World Cup.
