After announcing that a Top Gun sequel was in the works over two years ago, Tom Cruise has now dropped the title of the next flick. In an interview with Access Hollywood, Cruise revealed that the sequel will be dubbed Top Gun: Maverick. “It’s not going to be called ‘Top Gun 2,’ it’s going to be called ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’ I didn’t want a number. You don’t need a number,” Cruise said. Maverick is the call sign of Cruise’s character in the original film, a hotshot pilot in the Navy who truly lives the way his nickname suggests. While no other information has been revealed at this time, the sequel to the cult classic should have follow-up details soon.

Watch the interview above and let us know what you think the plot might be with this title revelation.
