Mario Kart Is Set to Enter the Wonderful World of Virtual Reality
Developed for the HTC Vive.
Visitors to the VR Zone in Shinjuku, Japan will now be given the opportunity to play Mario Kart in a completely different way. The new virtual reality version of the game has been developed by Bandai Namco for the HTC Vive. There aren’t too many details on the game yet, but it appears to feature wrist-mounted trackers for throwing objects at opponents and players sit in small cars while they take part, while a listing states that ”the course is filled with the well-known Mario Kart traps and tricks.” This is also the first foray that Nintendo has made into VR, although it appears that most of the game development has been handled by Bandai Namco.
While virtual reality continues to take over the gaming world, it has also made inroads into art with the launch of a new VR art platform featuring Marina Abramovic, Jeff Koons and Olafur Eliasson.
