The Trailer for Video Game 'Everything' Is Eligible for an Academy Award Nomination
Making video game and cinema history.
As TV continues to challenge cinema for its place at the top, it seems that video games are now quietly sneaking up behind the two premium mediums as Billy O’Reilly’s Everything makes Academy Award history. Having designed all of the video game sequences for Spike Jonze‘s 2013 flick Her – a film itself nominated for five awards from the academy — the Ireland-born artist is has long unified the two worlds with his work, but the nomination of the sprawling game’s 11-minute trailer for best animated short takes things to a new level.
Available on PS4, PC and Mac, the immersive experience of O’Reilly’s Everything – “a game in which everything you see is a playable character” — was already primed to change the way we perceive video games. This nomination raises stakes significantly.
