Dam-Funk Joins Nite Jewel for the Melancholic Single "Had To Let Me Go"
Essential listening.
There are very few certainties in music, but shrewd listeners can always count on one thing: Dam-Funk is going to deliver the highest-quality funk every time a piece of music attached to his name is released. For his latest gem, Dam-Funk joins close collaborator Nite Jewel — who has joined Dam-Funk as one-half of the criminally-underrated Nite-Funk act — and Cole M.G.N. for the melancholic yet funky “Had To Let Me Go.” The latest from Dam and Nite Jewel comes to us as the lead single in support of Nite Jewel’s forthcoming studio album Real High, which is set to drop this Friday, May 5 via Gloriette Records. “Had To Let Me Go” is billed as an exploration of “a relationship that one enters into as a naive youngster with someone older and wiser,” and is intended to evoke “the kind of excitement one feels when fostering love amidst difference, but coupled with the realization that this kind of difference can’t last.”
You can stream Nite Jewel and Dam-Funk’s “Had To Let Me Go” above, and pre-order Real High on iTunes.
