Dam-Funk Shares Final Demo, "The Truth"
Hopefully there’s even more new music on the way.
In what Dam-Funk says will be the final release of his demo series for quite some time, the west coast’s god and gatekeeper of modern funk has let loose “The Truth.” Heavy on the vocals, “The Truth” is both a showcase of Dam-Funk’s slept-on abilities as a singer and a striking slow-burner that feels like it could be an interlude on a full-length project or EP. This last entry in Dam-Funk’s string of demos also contains a sort of prolonged, straight-from-the-soul guitar solo, which is definitely something the 45-year-old underground icon needs to experiment with much more often. Whether it’s a pop-leaning record or the type of track that feels like a deep cut on an obscure ’70s funk vinyl, Dam-Funk is a master of all forms.
