In a constantly evolving world of technology, Kniterate has created a “digital knitting machine” that allows you to design clothes and shoes online and 3D print them by simply pressing a button. The company has its own app as well as integration with other design apps that makes creating knitwear a lot simpler and cheaper than with traditional industrial machines. Founder Gerard Rubio set out to create a system that would be an affordable form of 3D printing and with yarn, any unused material can be used again.

Kniterate’s machine has six yarn carries with variable colors and materials that work together with smart yarn tensioners equipped with sensors to prevent yarn breakage and knots. With no limitation on the type of yarn, the needle is computer controlled and reads the software which has templates and custom design capabilities. While only time will tell if this is the future of fashion, this is certainly a technology to pay attention to in the coming years.

YCheck out the video above to see the process and learn more about the company.
