adidas Celebrates Jackie Robinson Day With Special Edition Cleats and Trainers
On the 70th anniversary of him breaking the color barrier in baseball.

On April 15, every player on a Major League Baseball field will wear #42 to honor the late Jackie Robinson and adidas is celebrating the 70th anniversary of him breaking baseball’s color barrier with a duo of cleats and trainers. The special edition adizero Afterburner 4 and Icon Trainer honor the legend throughout their respective designs. On the adizero cleats a premium cream suede upper is paired with Jackie’s signature in gold foil, his stats embossed on a leather heel pull tab, premium tweed Three Stripes branding, and bronze accents of Ebbets Field on the heel counter and tongue where the Dodgers played. Sporting similar design aesthetics to the cleats, the Icon Trainer takes on a tweed look which is inspired by the suit that #42 wore on the day he retired coupled with a more pronounced Ebbets Field nod on the rear heel.
Both the adizero Afterburner and Icon Trainer will launch on Jackie Robinson Day this Saturday, April 15 for $120 USD and $100 USD respectively online, at Eastbay and Dick’s Sporting Goods. In addition to the footwear tributes, adidas also revamped a baseball field at Jackie’s alma mater John Muir High School in Pasadena, CA.
