Despite playing Godzilla, one of the most famous roles in the history of Japanese cinema, you’ve probably never seen Haruo Nakajima’s face or even heard his name. That’s because for the 12 Godzilla movies he starred in, he was encased in a giant monster suit. The documentary Youtube series, “Great Big Story,” sat down with the 87-year-old actor to talk about how he was picked for the iconic role, the stresses of wearing such a heavy piece of equipment for months at a time, and the enduring appeal of the King of Monsters.
