Kendrick Lamar has released a collector’s edition of his latest album, DAMN. The new version features a reversed tracklist — confirming the theory that the LP was intended to be played from back-to-front — and new artwork.
Shortly after the original album was released, fans already began coming up with different theories about the album, from its religious undertones to how it is supposed to be played in reverse order. Lamar later confirmed the latter theory in an interview with MTV News back in august. “I think like a week after the album came out, [fans] realized you can play the album backwards,” Kendrick said in the interview. “It plays as a full story and even a better rhythm. It’s one of my favorite rhythms and tempos within the album. It’s something that we definitely premeditate while we’re in the studio.”
