UNDERCOVER's Spring/Summer 2018 Collection Channels 'The Shining'
For its women’s division.
Jun Takahashi dived into the ’50s and ’60s for UNDERCOVER‘s women’s Spring/Summer 2018 collection, drawing inspiration from style zeitgeists such as Brigitte Bardot, Jackie O and Cindy Sherman. Conventionally “feminine” silhouettes, such as shift dresses and baby-doll dresses, and ingénue elements, such as Peter Pan collars and voluminous skirts, were supercharged with high-saturation hues and bold textiles.
Models walked down the runway in twos, hand-in-hand à la The Shining, donning matching outfits in contrasting tones that reference the two-faced Roman god Janus. Traditional textiles such as silk, lace and embroidery were paired with grittier materials such as raw cotton and patent leather, while classic Victorian style details and Little House on the Prairie vibes were infused with a more sinister tone.
