While everyone was talking about another fashion show of grand proportions on September 7, Japanese cult label visvim was the day’s sleeper hit during NYFW. The consistently Americana-based brand showcased its Pitti Uomo-debuted 2017 spring/summer offerings in the financial district of New York City–a change from its Chelsea studio previously–with light, breathable tops, classic bottoms, and a heavy emphasis on its well-known footwear.

First up was its special items collection, highlighted by an extraordinary take on ultra-traditional Japanese garment-making using a domestic paper process known as “Washi.” The rough textured exterior and crafted feel symbolized visvim’s continuation of quality processes while bringing something “new” to the table in the form of eccentricity. Lightweight linens were also presented to cater to the heat of 2017’s spring and summer seasons, while also employing breathable cotton fabrics with the label’s love for motors as graphics and artwork.

Making its triumphant return from a short hiatus in 2016 fall/winter, the world famous FBT moc-sneaker comes to us once again in classic form, with an upgraded Vibram sole and decorative bead embellishments that hark back to as far as 2009. FOLEY FOLK casual sneakers also made an appearance, in a smooth white leather upper contrasted with suede tongue overlays–tonal off white perhaps stood out the most. A new 7-HOLE Boot presented a hopeful alternative for the upcoming winter snow season along with MALISEET low-tops which saw a high contrast of fringe/upper coordination. These along with a classic assortment of bottoms and matching accessory backpacks to the “Washi” special editions made 2017 spring/summer perhaps visvim’s best NYFW showing to date.

Take a look at the preview above and also check out visvim’s female-centric WMV collection for 2017 spring/summer as well.
