New Balance Joins Taiwanese brand PHANTACi for a Display-Only Nostalgic Collection

The swarm of tour merch marks the influence of celebrities on fashion now, what follows the trend is the latest collaborative drop between New Balance and PHANTACi, helmed by Taiwanese pop artist Jay Chou. Having worked with Casio, STUSSY and the likes, PHANTACi is no stranger to trendsetting collaborations. The authentic NB997.5 model is revamped in this project to celebrate the footwear veteran’s 110th anniversary.
Each iteration is crafted with sophistication and draws themes from the singer’s past album sleeves and iconic singles. While some simply take the cue from his costumes, some denote their connection with unusual materials, such as fake horse hair. The thoughtful choices of colors and materials revitalize the classic model with memorabilia. 10 renditions have been created in commemoration of Jay’s expansive career, four of which have been released via PHANTACi.
