'Moonlight' Is a Coming of Age Drama About Self Discovery and Sexuality
A three-part narrative based on the play ‘In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue’ by Tarell Alvin McCraney.
Directed by Barry Jenkins, Moonlight centers around a young African-American man who is living through tough times during Miami’s drug wars in the ’80s. In this gripping trailer, we learn that Chiron (played by Trevante Rhodes) is having difficulty grasping his own vision of masculinity and sexuality. He grows up tormented by other children and his own family’s views about him. The three-part story traverses through childhood, adolescence and adulthood, giving viewers a better understanding of how each person involved in Chiron’s life has greatly affected him and the decisions he’s made. Moonlight also stars Naomi Harris, André Holland and soul/R&B singer Janelle Monaé.
The film is set to hit theaters on October 21.
