Nike Is Bringing Back Penny Hardaway's Zoom Flight 96 "Olympic"
Penny’s Dream Team II footwear returns 20 years later.
Though the roster may not have been as illustrious as the one that graced the hardwood in Barcelona back in 1992, 1996’s “Dream Team II” was nothing to sneeze at, bringing back Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Scottie Pippen, John Stockton and David Robinson from the aforementioned ‘92 team as they led the USA to its second-consecutive gold medal — this time on American soil. One of the new additions to that team — along with the likes of Shaq, Grant Hill, Reggie Miller, Hakeem Olajuwon, Gary Payton and Mitch Richmond — was none other than Penny Hardaway. Throughout those Olympics, the then Orlando Magic star sported a special rendition of the Zoom Flight 96 and now, two decades later, Nike is bringing back the design ahead of this summer’s games in Rio. Here the distinctly mid-’90s look remains true to the OG, coupling a predominately white leather upper with a combination of navy and metallic gold throughout. The only major change here (as expected) is the addition of the icy blue hue to the translucent rubber outsole.
Complete with Hardaway’s Olympic jersey number 6 embroidered on the heels, the 2016 retro of the Zoom Flight 96 “Olympic” is due out July 20 for $130 USD.
