Kenzo's Latest Film Stars an All-Female, Baseball Bat-Wielding Biker Gang
A stylish take on a traditional Japanese folk tale.
There is a traditional Japanese folk story about a child named Momotaro who is found floating down a stream inside a giant peach by an old and childless couple. The child is rescued and raised by the family before embarking on an adventure, assisted by a talking dog, monkey and pheasant, who have all agreed to help him in his quest to defeat menacing “oni,” or demons.
Kenzo’s latest short film, “Sun to Sun,” reimagines this classic story: this retelling sees Momotaro transformed into Momoko, a young biker girl and leader of an all-girl Harajuku biker gang who ride around a stylized and animated Tokyo wielding baseball bats. The film continues with an anime segment, highly stylized to the likeness of famed film Akira. While no collection is showcased throughout, the film does feature items and highlights from Kenzo releases.
