Hunter S. Thompson's Beloved Safari Jacket Can Now Be Yours
Get like Gonzo.
Hunter S. Thompson was a man and a writer known for his style. In addition to his signature copper cigarette holder, rose-colored shades and dilated pupils, the man who pioneered Gonzo journalism was also noted for his favorite piece of outerwear: a vintage Abercrombie & Fitch multicolored patchwork safari jacket that was painfully recreated for Johnny Depp’s turn as the motor-mouthed journalist in Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas. Fans and collectors have clamored for the piece and others that resemble it, with some fetching outrageous prices on eBay and other marketplaces.
New York-based clothing company High-Watermark have spent the past eight years conceptualizing and designing a jacket that pays tribute to Thompson’s beloved coat. The brand swapped out the original’s corduroy for canvas, but otherwise preserved many of the original garment’s charms.
The brand is seeking funding over on Kickstarter now, so head on over if you’d like to donate.
