When Gorillaz debuted in 2001, nobody had ever seen (or heard) anything of their sort, and for good reason – co-creators Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett intended for the virtual band to completely overturn conventional images of MTV celebrity and strictly demarcated genres that had long served as an impediment to musical development. In the 15 years since, 2D, Russel, Murdoc and Noodle have become instantly recognizable the world over, and their musical body of work and groundbreaking concept have influenced the likes of Kanye West, alongside collaborations with Snoop Dogg and Mos Def.
