Making their debut appearance at this year’s POW! WOW! Hawaii in association with JUSTKIDS was Brazilian collective Bicicleta Sem Freio (consisting of Douglas Castro, Victor Rocha and Renato Reno), who wowed crowds with their vibrant and bold aesthetic. Initially starting out as a band of tattoo artists, graphic designers, and illustrators from Goiânia who primarily dabbled in poster design and illustrations for small businesses, Bicicleta Sem Freio (which means “a bike with no brakes”) has since successfully made the leap to the realm of mural art, and all the sunshine, camaraderie and technical challenges that come along with that transition. We caught up with them as they made their own colorful addition to the face of Oahu’s Kaka’ako district.
