Star Wars fans are a dedicated bunch, and the fan filmmakers, even more so, with short films like this demonstrating that you don’t need much budget to create a stunning piece if you have the dedication. Dedication is certainly what seems to have resulted in the jaw-droppingly gorgeous fan film we have here, titled Darth Maul: Apprentice, which shines the spotlight again on the main villain from The Phantom Menace. Taking a whole two years to bring to reality, German filmmaker Shawn Bu stuffed the 18-minute short chock full of dazzling lightsaber battles set amongst lush forest backdrops. The top-notch makeup, special effects, cinematography, costumes, location and props all add up to an immersive experience that easily rivals any blockbuster action movie in cinemas right now.
