The craft of indigo dyeing is very much synonymous with Japanese artisanship, a craft that has suitably been paid homage by PUMA in its States silhouette. As part of the “Indigo” pack, the classic court sneaker has been outfitted with a leather upper which has been repeatedly dyed by hand to achieve two different hues — the lighter “asagi” hue required seven coats of indigo dye, while the darker “tome-kon” hue required 20 coats. Made in the birthplace of indigo in the Awa region of Japan’s Tokushima prefecture, you’ll be paying top dollar for the artisanal construction of these sneakers, which will hit select Japanese retailers on March 30 for ¥30,000 JPY (approximately $266 USD).
