Porsche Goes Back to Its Roots With the 911 R
Limited to only 911 units.
Porsche builds one for the purists with the new 911 R, a “Racing” edition of its iconic 1967 homologation car. The new 911 does this by paring back: excess weight has been eliminated by removing the vehicle’s backseats and raft, while using carbon fiber, magnesium and polycarbonate materials for the chassis. As a result of these decisions, the limited-edition vehicle weighs 110 pounds less than the brand’s already-lightweight 911 lineup. This model also marks the return of the beloved six-speed manual gearbox, for those who would rather disregard the fantastic PDK.
As far as the car’s release is concerned, it has been limited to only 911 units, so you’ll have to act fast when the car gets a release date at the Geneva Motor Show.
