Netflix Plans to Launch 20 New Unscripted Series by 2017

As 2016 quickly comes to an end, Netflix has had a remarkable year, providing viewers with hit original series such as Stranger Things and The Crown, while bringing back cult-classic Black Mirror. For the new year, the streaming giant has big plans. According to Netflix CCO Ted Sarando, 2017 will see the launching of 20 unscripted series and doubling its scripted productions. The promise of fresh original content for 2017 follows the recent announcement of offline playback, allowing viewers to download their shows and enjoy them offline. Sarandos states:

“Unscripted television is a very interesting business. The content itself seems to be largely interchangeable. Meaning, if you want to see a show about hoarding, there are three different shows about hoarding. What we try to do is take very measured swings for the fences, if that’s possible.”
