While on a trip to São Paulo, Brazil, HYPEBEAST had the chance to link up with adidas Skateboarding team member, Klaus Bohms. Bohms, who had a phenomenal part in one of the best skateboard videos of the year — Away Days by adidas — sat down with us to talk shop about Brazil and his part in the film. More importantly, Klaus also presented to us what he brings on his tours. Like any other prepared traveler, the Brazilian-born skater’s essentials make-up the usual suspects: laptop, camera, books and battery charger. But as a globe-skipping skater, he also brings along tools, skate shoes, and most importantly a number of decks — the ones we’re showing here are special because they are Klaus’s first pro model signature boards with Element.

For those unfamiliar, Klaus Bohms is one of Brazil’s best riders, showing a distinct force and style that will leave fans and any first-time skate appreciator in awe. When asked about what makes Brazilian skate style different from others, he says, “I think it’s because it’s a little bit harder to skate here. The spots and maybe the economic situation. The situation of the country. So when kids start skating, they don’t have many options. They think now that I’m doing this, I need to do it right. So you have more power, you have more will. And you can see it clearly.”

Away Days was also a big deal for Bohms. So much went into the project and the quality shows in the film. A lot of sacrifices were obviously made. “It was my longest tour,” he says. “It was the longest project I’ve been on. We were going on tours for two or three years. I was able to maybe be in 10 or 12 tours, so that’s a lot. It is tiring sometimes for sure. You’re there. It’s a big video that’s about to drop so you want to do your best. It’s pressure from you to yourself and you don’t have that much time in each place. So it’s hard, but at the same time the people from adidas, they pay attention to that. And they always invent something to do like bring us to a soccer game, a day-off, somewhere interesting.”

It’ll be exciting to see what’s in store for Klaus Bohms next year. With his recent launch of an Element board and new tours and projects around the way, we’re sure you’ll hear more about the Brazilian skater. Stay tuned with HYPEBEAST Sports as we’ll be paying closer attention to Bohm’s run in 2017.
