Vince Staples Stars in the Latest Converse Essentials Collection Lookbook Shot in NYC
Deadpan looks paired with French terry and Chucks.
Rising rap star, viral internet personality and emerging actor Vince Staples is known for a lot of things these days. The convention-defying rapper dropped his recent album, Prima Donna, just over a month ago as a commentary on how artists are treated by both the music business and their fans. Then, shortly after the release, Vince followed up the EP with a 10-minute short film of trippy visuals — bringing to life the anxieties and pressures musicians face today while being constantly connected to their critics and fans.
Catching the artist between projects, HYPEBEAST had the chance to hang out with Vince in downtown Manhattan and photograph him in the new Converse Essentials collection. Engineered to look better with age, and with a modern silhouette crafted from 360-gram legacy loopback french terry, the range of elevated wardrobe staples from Converse is a perfect match for Vince’s chill, unassuming style. Throughout the shoot, where Vince donned various looks from the line including crewnecks, hoodies and zip-ups, we got to experience some of his of humor — characteristically sarcastic, but not in the least bit pretentious, Vince made the shoot decidedly entertaining, even cracking a smile for a shot or two.
