Rizzoli Delves Deep Into the Carhartt WIP Archives
A look at the rise of the Detroit Jacket, Siberian Jacket, Watch Cap and more.

Back in the 1980s, Carhartt’s brown duck work coats rose to streetwear prominence as an antidote to the denim-clad masses and, in the years since, have become a streetwear staple thanks to the rise of the American workwear imprint’s European distributor, Work In Progress. Now Rizzoli is taking a comprehensive look back at WIP’s history with the aptly named The Carhartt WIP Archives. Edited by Michel Lebugle and Anna Sinofzik with text from Sinofzik, Gary Warnett, and Mark Kessler, Archives clocks in at over 425 pages and boasts more than 350 images consisting of previously unpublished photographs, artworks, archival ephemera and pieces from private collections for “an unparalleled look into the brand’s bustling universe.” Better yet, some of Carhartt WIP’s most iconic pieces — the Detroit Jacket, Siberian Jacket and Watch Cap, to name a few — have light shed on their backstories as the tome documents their rise to ubiquity.
Carhartt fans will soon be able to pick up a copy at spots like Slam Jam while the publication can already be purchased online from Amazon.
