White Mountaineering Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary for 2016 Fall/Winter

American heritage meets Japanese sensibility.

Yosuke Aizawa’s White Mountaineering brand turned 10 this past year, and it marked the occasion by modifying the buffalo check pattern that opened his first collection for this year’s introductory runway. The Japanese brand’s narrative has been widened to reflect Aizawa’s admiration of Americana and vintage workwear — think quilted statement coats with patterns that echo Pendleton wool throw blankets that would come in handy on the frontier, not to mention utility belts — all while keeping the company’s Japanese craftsmanship on full display. The latter was conveyed through the use of colorful silks, Moebius trip-like scarves and distressed/repaired denim. The designer also took his runway debut as an opportunity to introduce BLK, a monochromatic sports- and activewear line that features cozy shorts and leg-warmers for hikers and the outdoorsy types.
