IWC Big Pilot's Heritage 55 And 48 Limited Editions
A tribute to the antimagnetic navigator’s watches of the 1940s.

Following a preview of the IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Annual Calendar Edition “Le Petit Prince” yesterday, we have been provided with two more pilot watch models that the Swiss watchmaker plans to unveil soon at SIHH 2016. Taking up a fair portion of your wrist real estate in the tradition of pilot’s watches, the Big Pilot’s Heritage 55 And 48 Limited Editions are firmly rooted in historical navigator’s watches from the 1940s. Limited to 100 units, the larger 55mm version carries the IWC caliber 98300 hand-wound movement with a 48-hour power reserve, and duplicates the antimagnetic properties that allowed the original navigator’s watches to be used in a plane cockpit. The smaller 48mm timepiece (limited to 1000 units) uses another movement — the IWC caliber 59215 with an eight-day power reserve — and features a viewing port in the case back which is small enough not to disrupt the watch’s antimagnetic properties.
IWC Big Pilot’s Heritage 55 And 48 will be available for $14,800 and $13,400 USD respectively, and will be made available in the weeks following SIHH 2016, which takes place between January 18-22.
