British Homeowners Are Installing Star Trek-Like Elevators
Check out the future of staircases.

Say goodbye to traditional staircases because homeowners now have an affordable option of installing pods that easily take you floor-to-floor. Designed by the UK’s Terry Lifts, this impossibly clever home contraption will help older folks who may have trouble getting up and down stairs. The glass-paneled pod only requires a hole in the ground/ceiling, and runs on a pair of rails that hide the hydraulic mechanism out of sight. The hidden hydraulic mechanism allows the elevator to be shaft-less, so it’s not an eyesore when the pod is parked. An emergency brake is triggered by microswitches, so nothing will be accidentally crushed.
But apart from the ingenious design, is the Reuters news report about it, featuring highly inaccurate references to Doctor Who and Star Trek. Watch the clip below and enjoy.
