Opening Ceremony 2016 Spring/Summer Collection
Classical composers of yore get a nod in the form of band tees.
Riffing off the format of the perennial concert tee, Opening Ceremony has instead turned it on its head by plastering the names instead of the long-dead classical composers of yore, including the likes of Tchaikovsky, Chopin and Beethoven. The feeling is overall brazenly ironic and tongue-in-cheek, bringing two disparate worlds crashing together in what is ultimately a self-reflexive exercise in cultural commentary. Elsewhere, the collection offers more practical looks, reinterpreting staples such as the fitted khakis, work jackets and textured tees. Adorning many of the pieces were geometric, psychedelic prints that brought additional visual interest to the ’80s-inspired graphics featuring the brands of composers, while the oversized nature of the collection at the same time brought an adolescent aesthetic to the offerings.
