Montreal-based architecture firm naturehumaine has completed the renovation of a two-storey-high space, converting it into a home that also incorporates ample space for fitness routines. Making ample use of skylights and wide windows, the interior is filled with light during the day, a feature made possible by the combining of the two floors into one space, with seemingly suspended plywood boxes that form private ensuite bedrooms on the second floor. Otherwise, the shared spaces are dedicated to utilitarian functions, such as the kitchen, workout area encompassing gymnastic rings and a pull-up bar, and office area. A long, thin box stretches the length of the interior on the first floor, accommodating stairways, a shower room, and part of the kitchen within, while its top serves as a pathway linking the two bedrooms.
