Kanye West to Produce Music for Upcoming U.S. Slavery Drama
Music superstar Kanye West is expanding his ever-widening influence to musical executive producer

Music superstar Kanye West is expanding his ever-widening influence to musical executive producer for the U.S. TV drama Underground. The 10-episode series centers on a group of slaves plotting their escape from imprisonment at a plantation in Georgia. No stranger to the topic, Kanye West has drawn parallels to his own experience in the fashion industry to slavery, as well as deconstructing 21st century slavery in the Yeezus single “New Slaves.” He had once shared, “I kind of saw that as the parallel of the main character in 12 Years A Slave. When it was taken away from me, it felt like as a creative to be enslaved.” Filming for Underground begins in Louisiana on April 13 — let us know if you’re looking forward to the series.
