After discontinuing stateside sale of the model in 1997, Land Rover is planning to bring back the Defender in a big way, just in time for the manufacturer’s 70th anniversary. The 2018 Land Rover Defender will get a complete makeover, and be available in various permutations of body style and engine, including both 6-speed manual and 9-speed automatic varieties. In addition to halting sales of the model in the States in the late ’90s, Land Rover had also previously announced that global production would end in December 2015 due to legislative reasons. It looks like those issues have been resolved and we can all look forward to a refreshed Defender offering in the next few years.
