In the process of reinventing itself, Microsoft is currently in the midst of acquiring startups that have created products rivaling its own. Microsoft’s latest acquisition is calendar app maker, Sunrise, for which the company allegedly shelled out $100 million. Sunrise offers a suite of calendar applications across platforms, and allows users to consolidate calendars from different providers. This acquisition furthers Microsoft’s portfolio of technologies that rivals Apple’s offerings, and it is reported that Sunrise will be kept as a standalone product while Microsoft uses some of the app’s technology for its own endeavors. Apart from Sunrise, Microsoft had recently acquired Accompli for $200 million, which recently became a part of Outlook for Android and iOS.
