Adele‘s latest album 25 could be on its way to becoming the best-selling album of this generation and in celebration, TIME Magazine invited the record-breaking, chart-topping British songstress to be featured on their cover story for their upcoming issue. One of the topics she addressed for the first time is why she had chosen to keep 25 off all streaming services including Spotify and Apple Music. She shares:

“I believe music should be an event. For me, all albums that come out, I’m excited about leading up to release day. I don’t use streaming. I buy my music. I download it, and I buy a physical [copy] just to make up for the fact that someone else somewhere isn’t. It’s a bit disposable, streaming.”

She, however, acknowledges that music streaming will get more prominent in the future but says that it’s not the only way to consume music.

“I know that streaming music is the future, but it’s not the only way to consume music. I can’t pledge allegiance to something that I don’t know how I feel about yet.”

When asked what she thought about Taylor Swift, who has shared similar ideas towards streaming in the past, Adele says exclaims that she loves the 1989 mastermind.

“I love her — how powerful she is. We’ll get lumped together now because of it, but I think we would both feel the ability to say yes or no to things even if we weren’t successful.”
