Acne Studios' New NYC Store Comes From the Space Age
A scientist wouldn’t look out of place in the Swedish brand’s newest store.
Acne Studios strengthens its presence in New York with the opening of its second outpost in the West Village, bordering Chelsea and the Meatpacking District. Designed by architect Sophie Hicks, the 1,292-square-foot space is clad both inside and outside with stainless steel walls, while floor-to-ceiling light boxes douse the interior in clinical, laboratory-appropriate lighting. Negative space reigns supreme, with only one piece of each style displayed in the retail area. The current collection is hung from a central clothing rack, much like backstage at Fashion Week, providing a snapshot of the designers’ current artistic direction. Take a peek at the space above, and anticipate the opening of the Swedish brand’s third store this summer on Madison Avenue.
