Grime MCs Painted as Historic Noblemen for Tate BritainSkepta, Stormzy and Dizzee Rascal in the frame.
Reuben Dangoor, a British illustrator and director, has created oil paintings of grime heavyweights as historic officers. Dubbed Legends of the Scene, the artworks show Skepta, Stormzy, Dizzee Rascal, D Double E and Wiley mounted on white horses, Union Jack in arm, or posing in a cozy drawing room. In regards to the paintings, Dangoor says “I love the fact that garage and grime are finally getting the love it deserves. Felt like I wanted to honour some of the legends of the scene in a historical way.” Legends of the Scene launched at the Tate Britain on December 4 as part of the museum’s Late Night series, which explores celebrity culture through art, music and talks.
