Watch This On-Road Test Drive of the Tesla 'Autopilot' System
The Tesla Model S Level 2 automated system hits the road.
Hot after Tesla’s announcement that the motor company’s S and X model vehicles will include an autonomous driving function similar to airplanes’ autopilot feature, we get our first look at an actual on-road test drive. In the footage, a driver from automotive site Jalopnik takes his hands off the wheel as he allows the Tesla Model S Level 2 automated system to take control. Level 2 means that the driver still has to pay attention to the road, since the vehicle only handles “at least two primary control functions.” The test drive shows that the car actually changes lanes on its own and will slow down when sensing traffic in front of it. After his experience, the driver describes the experience as “super weird and super fun.” Check out the full video above.
